Ulysses Eastern Creek

Ulysses Eastern Creek Branch – 2009 Christmas Party

This year’s festive celebration for the Eastern Creek Branch took place at Big Al’s Clubhouse on the 5th December. With 60 of our members setting the night aside at this busy time of the year to celebrate Christmas it was a pleasing turn out. Many of the members had never visited Big Al’s before so they were very impressed to say the least when they entered what they thought was to be a factory unit with a bit of memorabilia. After the initial shock of viewing the Clubhouse people soon settled in for a night of good food and entertainment.

Sheppos Spit Roast Parties catered for the meal. Also known as Terry & Elaine two of our regulars. But the credit for this night goes to Tony our Chef, Big Al’s always uses Sheppos on the agreement that Tony comes with the deal, this man is a one man show! Well done Tony sensational food and fantastic service.
Where do I start? I myself not a big drinker planned to have a good time and that I did, in fact half a bottle of scotch of a good time. I can tell you what happened up until midnight after that Margot will have to take over because I don’t remember anything after 12am.

Big Al played great music as usual to get the atmosphere happening and then he introduced us to Elaine a Line dancing instructor who teaches line dancing on a Monday night at the Clubhouse. I know this because I go and I’m now a line dancing junkie. Elaine taught us a dance, the floor was full with about 20 people all with 2 left feet, and I myself have 2 right feet and an awesome style. Towards the end the majority of us picked it up, by the time the music came on most of us were dancing in unison. A great way to start off the night and break the ice.

Then low and behold Big Alvis arrived, I myself have seen Al’s performance before so was prepared, but an awful lot of people weren’t and you should have seen their faces. That was worth the price of the ticket in itself. After the initial shock, surprise or glee whatever you want to call it, Big Alvis knocked their socks off with his legendary Big Alvis show. He sang his little heart out paying tribute to Elvis. Decked out in the full white jumpsuit complete with wig and all the bling in the midst of the laser lights and smoke machines. He was then joined by Marcilla (Margot) for a few more numbers. Then much to the crowd’s disappointment he left the building. Regardless of whether Al can sing he can certainly entertain, it’s a night most members are still talking about (in a good way).

We then did the raffles, which I’m told went on forever by this time I don’t remember. I think most went away with a little something. Then we went into the karaoke, some more dancing and a whole lot of fun. I’m sure I speak for not only myself but also for the members when I say this is the best Christmas party that Eastern Creek has endured for a long time. I don’t know of anyone who didn’t have a good time and was not blown away by the Clubhouse, the entertainment and the hospitality.

Well done Big Al’s Clubhouse and well done Eastern Creek for being such a great bunch.
